• A Radical Shift: Unlike the traditional hero, this version is a "passenger in his own life," a hardened detective whose perception of reality becomes increasingly incomprehensible as the Martian reawakens him to emotional truths.
• Visual Style: The story utilizes abstract, vibrant artwork to depict telepathy and emotions as "explosions of rainbow smoke". Artist Javier Rodríguez notably used modeling clay to create the unique, non-traditional design for the Martian.
