All Eight Eyes # 1, released on April 19, 2023, is the first issue in a four-part horror miniseries published by Dark Horse Comics that blends a creature-feature vibe with post-9/11 New York City grit.
The story is set in the forgotten corners of New York City in 2003.
-
The Protagonist: Vin Spencer is a college dropout floating through life in a drug-and-party-fueled haze. He's broke and recently evicted from his apartment.
-
The Discovery: While wandering through a park, Vin witnesses a homeless man named Reynolds seemingly murdering another person with a hammer. Upon closer inspection, Vin discovers that Reynolds is actually fighting a giant, dog-sized spider that has killed a victim and wrapped it in webbing.
-
The Conspiracy: Reynolds reveals that hordes of these massive spiders have been secretly preying on vulnerable residents of the city for years, but everyone ignores or rationalizes the attacks. He shows Vin a journal full of his findings and a montage reveals the spiders have been present in the city for centuries.
-
The Twist: Reynolds gives Vin the option to walk away and forget what he saw, an offer Vin finds impossible to accept after having his eyes opened to the hidden menace. The issue ends with Vin joining Reynolds in an underground hunt, where they discover a nest of the creatures.

Creature Feature Horror: The series is often described as a mix of Jaws and Arachnophobia. The artwork effectively renders various giant spider species in unsettling detail.
-
Social Commentary: The story uses the hidden giant spiders as a metaphor for the way society ignores marginalized communities like the homeless, who are the primary victims of the creatures.
