Annihilation Scourge: Fantastic Four # 1 2020 released on December 18, 2019, is a one-shot tie-in to the "Annihilation Scourge" crossover event, which features the Fantastic Four returning to the Negative Zone to face an existential threat. 

The Fantastic Four are alerted to a potential tear in the dimension and discover the Negative Zone is being consumed by an unliving, monstrous force. 

• The Threat: The invasion force, known as the Scourge, originates from the "Cancerverse" (a reality where death has been vanquished, resulting in an endless, unliving hive mind) and is led by an infected Sentry.
• The Mission: The team is called in for help by the inhabitants of the Negative Zone, some of whom were once under the protection of the Human Torch during his time there. They leave their children behind to journey into the besieged dimension.
• Personal Stakes: The issue explores the emotional trauma of the team, especially Johnny Storm, who still deals with PTSD from the trauma of dying dozens of times in the Negative Zone.
• The Battle: The Fantastic Four must fight twisted, evil versions of themselves (their "Cancerverse counterparts," sometimes called the Ftaghn Four) while trying to repel the Scourge and prevent it from breaching the main Marvel Universe. A key revelation is that Reed Richards may be partially responsible for the Sentry's presence there, adding a layer of moral complexity to the story.
