Aquaman and the Others # 1, published by DC Comics in April 2014, launched an ongoing series that expanded the mythos of Arthur Curry’s first superhero team. Written by Dan Jurgens with art by Lan Medina, the series spins out of the "New 52" Aquaman run by Geoff Johns.
Story Synopsis: "Legacy of Gold"
The series reunites Aquaman with a loose association of allies he worked with years before joining the Justice League.
-
The Artifacts of Power: Each member of "The Others" possesses a unique, ancient Atlantean relic that grants them super abilities. In the first issue, these artifacts begin to malfunction, failing to activate when the team members are targeted by a mysterious new foe seeking to steal them.
-
The Re-Formation: Aquaman learns that the artifacts lose power the longer they are kept apart. This gives the team a critical reason to reunite and solve the mystery of their targeted attacks.
-
A "Futures End" Tie-in: The first issue features a final page that leads directly into the events of the Futures End weekly series.
The "Others" featured in this series include both original members and a new addition:
-
Aquaman: Wields the Trident of Neptune (though he holds his own unique trident).
-
The Operative (Joshua Cole): A seasoned spy who holds a Key that can unlock any door.
-
Ya'Wara: A jungle-dweller with a Golden Globe that allows her to teleport.
-
Prisoner-of-War (Dominick Torrez): Haunted by the ghosts of his fallen squad, he uses Manacles that create powerful force fields.
-
Sky Alchesay: The newest member and a shaman who uses a Seal of Clarity to communicate with the dead, taking the place of the fallen original member Kahina the Seer.
