Aquaman Annual # 1 2018 NM-

Aquaman Annual # 1, published in January 2018 (cover date; on sale date November 29, 2017), is an oversized issue featuring a self-contained story that heavily references the classic Superman tale "For the Man Who Has Everything". The comic explores Aquaman's deepest wish: peace between the surface world and the sea. 

Story Synopsis: "What Dreams May Come" 

The story is a powerful character study centered on the use of a powerful alien plant: the Black Mercy. 

• A Perfect World: Aquaman is trapped in a dream world by a Black Mercy plant (a parasitic alien plant that traps its victim in a perfect, but false, reality). In this ideal world, Aquaman has achieved his greatest dream: the city of Crownspire, a magnificent utopia of human and Atlantean design that symbolizes harmony between the two cultures.
• The Family: In this peaceful existence, Aquaman lives happily with Mera and their young son, Tom Curry. They are visited by friends from the Justice League, including Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern.
• The Truth: This idyllic future is an illusion. The villainous Murk, who was thought to be dead, discovers Aquaman in his catatonic state. Recognizing the false reality, Murk believes the only way to free Arthur from the Black Mercy's control is to kill his son within the dream (who is not real).
• A Tragic Homage: The story uses the Black Mercy concept to explore the painful pre-Crisis continuity where Aquaman's first son, Arthur Jr., was killed. This adds emotional depth to Arthur and Mera's relationship and their shared past traumas.
