Aquaman: Futures End # 1 2014 NM-

Aquaman: Futures End # 1 was published in September 2014 as part of DC Comics' Futures End weekly event. This one-shot issue provides a possible future scenario set five years after the main continuity, where a devastating war has left the world's oceans toxic and Atlantis in ruins. 

Story Synopsis: "Long Live the Dead King" 

The narrative explores a bleak future for Arthur Curry (Aquaman): 

• Ruined World: A devastating war (implied to be an invasion from another Earth) has severely damaged the planet's oceans, leaving Arthur to manage the few remaining Atlantean survivors. He attempts to foster peace with surface dwellers through a new "Atlantis Island" outpost, but this is met with resentment from his people.
• Strained Relationships: Arthur and Mera are separated and estranged. Mera rules from the Atlantean city of Xebel, while Arthur is in a relationship with Ya'Wara of the Others.
• The Dead King Returns: A rebel faction led by Vulko plots to replace Aquaman with the resurrected ancient king Atlan, the Dead King.
• Betrayal: The issue culminates in Mera siding with Atlan to sentence Arthur to death for "infidelity" and the perceived failure of his rule.
• To Be Continued: The story is the first part of a two-part arc that concludes in Aquaman and the Others: Futures End #1.
