Batman # 1 (Volume 4), published on September 3, 2025, marks a major relaunch and a "soft reboot" for the character. Written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Jorge Jiménez, this issue initiates a new era following the events of the "Dying City" and "H2SH" storylines. 

"Vast Colors In The Dark" 

The story presents a "cyberpunk" and dystopian Gotham City where Vandal Savage has been appointed Police Commissioner. 

• A New Status Quo: Batman sports a new blue-and-gray costume, utilizes an upgraded Batmobile, and communicates with a "hallucinated" or AI-based version of Alfred Pennyworth derived from Bruce's memories.
• The Main Threat: The central conflict involves Killer Croc (Waylon Jones), who has escaped Arkham Towers. Due to exposure to mysterious "morphotoxins," Croc is physically stronger but has mentally regressed into a gentle, childlike state.
• A "Kinder" Batman: Instead of his usual aggressive tactics, Batman takes a compassionate approach. He unmasks himself to bond with Croc over a shared interest in dinosaurs at the Gotham Natural History Museum, eventually convincing him to return peacefully to Arkham for treatment.
• GCPD Tensions: Commissioner Savage introduces the Tactical Urban Combat Officers (TCO), a private team of mercenaries or "robot police" tasked with dealing with super-threats, who are also authorized to target Batman.
• Cliffhanger: The issue concludes at Pennyworth Manor with Batman receiving an emergency call from Robin (Tim Drake), who is cornered by the police.
