Batman #476, published by DC Comics with a cover date of April 1992, is a single-issue comic book that serves as the thrilling conclusion to a three-part storyline titled "The Return of Scarface".
Storyline & Plot Synopsis
The issue features the story "The Return of Scarface, Part Three: The Gig Heat!" (crossing over from Detective Comics #642).
- The Trap: The villainous mob-boss puppet Scarface and his ventriloquist partner, Arnold Wesker, have trapped Commissioner James Gordon and a rival gang, the Street Demonz, inside a Gotham warehouse rigged to explode.
- The Twist: The issue famously features a dramatic "cover fake-out". The cover heavily teases Batman revealing his secret identity (Bruce Wayne) to his love interest, Vicki Vale. Inside the comic, this is shown to be a daydream sequence. After Batman successfully rescues Commissioner Gordon from the exploding plant, he realizes how dangerous his life is to those around him and ultimately decides not to tell Vicki his secret to protect her from being targeted by his enemies.
