Batman #608 2002 kicks off the iconic "Hush" storyline (Part 1 of 12) where a mysterious villain (Hush) orchestrates events, starting with a manipulated Killer Croc kidnapping a rich kid; Batman rescues him but gets ambushed by Catwoman, who's working with Poison Ivy, leading to a severe fall that injures Batman and reveals a larger plot to dismantle Bruce Wayne's life by this new, shadowy foe.

  • The Kidnapping: A super-strong Killer Croc kidnaps young Edward Lamont IV, demanding ransom.
  • The Rescue: Batman saves the boy, but Croc is just a pawn.
  • The Ambush: Catwoman steals the ransom money and lures Batman into a trap, cutting his grapple line and sending him plummeting, severely injuring him.
  • The Setup: Catwoman then delivers the money to Poison Ivy, hinting at a deeper conspiracy.
  • The Villain: This issue introduces the enigmatic, bandage-faced villain, Hush, who orchestrated these events to torment Batman by exploiting his allies and enemies.

This issue sets the stage for a massive saga involving most of Batman's rogues' gallery and exploring Bruce Wayne's past and relationships, all under the watchful eye of Hush.
