Batman: Last Knight on Earth #1 (released May 29, 2019) is the first issue of a three-part DC Black Label miniseries. It serves as the "final" Batman story from the acclaimed creative team of writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, who previously helmed the "Court of Owls" and Dark Nights: Metal sagas. 

Plot Summary: The Last Batman Story

The story begins with a surreal mystery in modern Gotham involving chalk outlines of Batman's own "corpse" across the city. This leads to a massive shift: 

• The Arkham Awakening: Bruce Wayne wakes up in Arkham Asylum, young and apparently sane. Doctors, led by an elderly Alfred, claim he was never Batman and that his "memories" were a decades-long delusion triggered by the trauma of his parents' death.
• A Devastated Future: Bruce eventually realizes the asylum is an elaborate ruse designed to protect him. He escapes into a post-apocalyptic wasteland—a devastated DC landscape 20 years in the future where the Justice League has fallen.
• The Joker's Head: In the desert, Bruce discovers a decapitated but still-living Joker head in a lantern. The Joker becomes his ghoulish, wise-cracking guide through the ruins of the world.
• The Clone Revelation: Batman eventually encounters a retired Wonder Woman in Gemworld. He learns that he is actually a clone of the original Bruce Wayne, grown by a machine the original hero designed to ensure a "Batman" would always exist.
