Bloodstrike #1, published by Image Comics in April 1993, introduces a black-ops superteam operating under the direction of the U.S. government. Created by Rob Liefeld and written by Eric Stephenson, the comic centers on a group of agents who are frequently killed in action and then resurrected by their handlers to continue their missions.

Story Synopsis: "The Birthright Directive, Part One"

The issue introduces the team and their brutal, morally gray operational guidelines.

  • The Mission: The government team, Bloodstrike, is deployed to retrieve a rogue agent named Tag.
  • The Team Leader: The team is led by Cabbot Stone, the ruthless brother of John Stone (Battlestone from Brigade).
  • Resurrection Protocol: The story establishes the core premise: these agents, including characters like Deadlock, are enhanced operatives who die on missions, are placed in cold storage, and then resurrected with no memory of their previous lives or deaths.
  • Betrayal and Conflict: A recurring theme is the tension between Cabbot Stone and the rest of the team, as Stone exhibits an arrogant disdain for his fellow operatives, seeing them as expendable assets.

Creative Team & Characters

  • Writers: Rob Liefeld and Eric Stephenson.
  • Artist: Marat Mychaels (Pencils) and Jeff Matsuda (Inks).

The primary characters are a secretive and ruthless counterpoint to the more public superhero teams of the Image universe.

  • Cabbot Stone: The hard-edged field leader with enhanced abilities.
  • Deadlock: An agent with telekinetic abilities.
  • Fourplay: A female agent with multiple personalities, each controlling a different power set (telekinesis, pyrokinesis, etc.).
  • Tag: The rogue agent they are initially sent to retrieve.

Collectible Information

  • Special Cover: The original printing features an embossed cover with metallic ink, a common feature of early 1990s collectible comics.
  • Crossover Connection: The team plays a major role in the crossover events with Brigade, specifically concerning the blood feud between the Stone brothers.
