Booster Gold # 0 2008 titled "Blue & Gold, Chapter 1: The Secret Origin of Booster Gold," is a pivotal issue in the character's second volume (2007–2011). Published on February 13, 2008, it was written by Geoff Johns and Jeff Katz with art by Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund. 

The issue is notable for being an official Zero Hour tie-in released over a decade after the original 1994 event. 

• The Secret Origin: The story provides a definitive look at Michael Jon Carter's origin in the 25th century. It reveals the tragic circumstances behind him throwing a college football game—extortion by his manipulative, gambling-addict father—which ruined his future and led to his menial job as a museum security guard.
• The Zero Hour Connection: Traveling through the time stream, Booster and the Blue Beetles encounter the 1994 villains Parallax (Hal Jordan) and Extant. The encounter results in the heroes being stranded in a timeline where Booster must face his own past mistakes.
