Brigade #1, published by Image Comics in August 1992, is the first issue of a four-part miniseries created by Rob Liefeld. It introduced a new team of vigilante superheroes led by the former Youngblood commander, Battlestone.
Story Synopsis: "Sabotage!"
The issue begins at the team’s beachside headquarters in Malibu, where Battlestone breaks up a fight between brothers Coldsnap and Seahawk. A "Code Red" alert comes in from Washington D.C. regarding terrorists who have seized a building and are threatening to detonate explosives.
- The Mission: With the government-sanctioned team Youngblood unavailable, Brigade takes action. They quickly neutralize the terrorists, only to find no bombs inside.
- The Trap: A remaining terrorist leads Battlestone on a chase, eventually revealing that he is the bomb. He detonates, seemingly killing Battlestone in the blast.
- The Observer: Battlestone survives the explosion, rising from the wreckage. This survival is observed by an alien named Genocide (making his first appearance), who decides the team will be worthy opponents and directs his ship toward Earth.
