Brigade # 1, published by Image Comics in May 1993, is the first issue of the team’s second volume (ongoing series) following their initial 1992 miniseries. Titled "A Sort of Homecoming" and "Blood Brothers Part 1," it features a relaunch of the team under Battlestone's leadership and focuses on the high-stakes consequences of their past.
Story Synopsis: "Blood Brothers Part 1"
The issue begins with the Brigade team returning to Earth after a three-month mission in deep space.
- Internal Strife: Upon landing at their Malibu headquarters, Stasis blames Battlestone for the death of their teammate Atlas during their space mission and immediately quits the team.
- The Ambush: As Stasis leaves, she is shot and killed by Cabbot Stone, Battlestone's own brother and leader of the government strike team Bloodstrike.
- A Brutal Defeat: Bloodstrike launches a full assault to take Brigade into custody. In the ensuing battle:
- Coldsnap is blasted by Shogun, causing his ice powers to rage out of control and transform him into a hulking ice behemoth.
- Seahawk and Kayo are brutally taken down and captured by Bloodstrike members like Deadlock and Fourplay.
- The Escape: Battlestone manages to defeat Cabbot and Tag, eventually escaping with the wounded Thermal, Coldsnap, and Stasis’s body to a G.A.T.E. International facility for medical aid.
- Recruitment: Recognizing his team has been decimated, Battlestone sets out to find reinforcements, eventually locating his former teammate Boone in Silicon Valley.
