Cable: Blood & Metal # 1 is the character's first-ever solo series, a two-issue limited run from Marvel Comics released in October 1992. This issue delves into Cable's complex past, including his time with the Six Pack and his long-standing conflict with his arch-nemesis, Stryfe.

The issue is titled "Blood & Metal - Pt 1" and explores two time periods simultaneously.

  • The Past (Ten Years Ago): The story revisits Cable's time leading the mercenary group the Wild Pack (later renamed the Six Pack for trademark reasons) on a mission for the arms dealer Tolliver. This mission brings them into a confrontation with the mysterious villain Stryfe.
  • The Present: In the present day, Cable interrupts the Mutant Liberation Front (MLF) as they attempt to steal ancient artifacts linked to Apocalypse. The issue reveals that the MLF is working for Stryfe, and Cable learns that Stryfe has the same face as he does, a key plot point in their shared history.
  • Garrison Kane: The story also introduces G.W. Bridge, who sends a pre-crippled Garrison Kane (Weapon X) to investigate Cable's actions and bring him in.
  • Writer: Fabian Nicieza.
  • Penciler: John Romita Jr..
  • Inker: Dan Green.
  • Cover Art: Features a wraparound cover by John Romita Jr. and Dan Green.
