Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #1 released November 2014 is the debut issue of a series that spins directly out of the Marvel event Avengers & X-Men: AXIS. It features Sam Wilson in his new role as Captain America, leading a team known for being "Avengers for the people".
The story focuses on the immediate fallout of the "inversion" spell from the AXIS event, which swapped the moral alignments of many heroes and villains.
- The Inverted Captain America: Sam Wilson is patrolling New York, but the inversion has made him aggressive and cynical. He uses excessive violence to stop a robbery and shows open disdain for human rights.
- Luke Cage’s Change: Luke Cage has also been inverted, becoming more selfish and profit-driven. He meets with the CEO of the notorious Cortex Corporation, Jason Quantrell, to discuss a deal.
- Spider-Man's Return: Peter Parker attempts to rejoin the team and apologize for the actions of "Superior Spider-Man" (Doctor Octopus). However, Luke Cage remains hostile toward him due to Doc Ock’s past threats against his daughter.
- The Plunderer's "Good" Turn: In contrast to the heroes, the villainous Plunderer is also inverted, leading a heist not for greed but to give the money to orphans.
