Catwoman # 1 published by DC Comics in August 1993, launched the character's first long-running ongoing solo series. The issue marks a turning point for Selina Kyle, beginning her transition from a simple cat burglar into a more complex anti-hero. 

Story Synopsis: "Life Lines" Part 1 

The story is set in a Gotham City currently under the control of the villain Bane (during the famous Knightfall era). 

  • The Heist: Selina Kyle evades museum guards to steal jewelry, only to be confronted by Bane’s henchmen, Bird and Leopold, who demand a cut for their employer.
  • The Double-Cross: Bane attempts to use Catwoman’s connection to Leopold to draw out a professional hitman named Guillermo.
  • The Twist: Catwoman successfully steals a famous jewel set from the Darracourt family by posing as the homeowner's wife.
  • The Cliffhanger: The issue ends violently when Guillermo uses a rocket launcher to blow up Selina's apartment building while her friend Arizona is inside.
