Convergence #4 (2015) marks the midpoint of the main miniseries, where the focus shifts from the "battle royale" between cities to the deeper mystery of the planet Telos and the true threat lurking beneath its surface.

Plot Summary

The issue continues following the displaced heroes of Earth-2 as they navigate the chaos of the sentient planet.

  • The Search for Brainiac: The Earth-2 heroes—including Dick Grayson, Telos (the entity), and Alan Scott—venture into the core of the planet to find the real Brainiac, hoping to find a way to stop the forced gladiatorial matches.
  • The Hidden Cities: Deep within the planet, they discover a massive "museum" of cities that Brainiac has collected over eons. It’s revealed that Brainiac has been experimenting on these timelines, discarding those he deems failures.
  • Enter Deimos: The group encounters the sorcerer Deimos (from the Warlord series), who has been imprisoned by Brainiac. Deimos claims he is the only one who can truly "free" the cities, but he is clearly manipulating the heroes for his own power.
  • Telos' Identity: The sentient planet, Telos, begins to have flashes of a past life, suggesting he wasn't always a servant of Brainiac but was once a living being with a name and a home.
  • The Turning Point: By the end of the issue, Deimos manages to escape his confinement, setting the stage for his takeover of the event in the subsequent issues.

Creative Team

Key Highlights

  • Multiversal Lore: This issue provides the most exposition regarding how Brainiac selected the cities and his ultimate goal for the "Convergence."
  • Character Focus: Features heavy development for the Earth-2 Batman (Thomas Wayne) and Dick Grayson, as they realize they are the "anomalies" in Brainiac's grand design.
