Convergence: Booster Gold #1 (2015), written by Dan Jurgens with art by Alvaro Martinez and Raul Fernandez, deviates from other Convergence tie-ins by focusing on multiple time travelers who were captured before being domed. The issue features two different versions of Booster Gold working with Rip Hunter.

Plot Synopsis

Unlike other characters who spent a year powerless under domes, the time travelers, including the New 52 Booster Gold, his older counterpart (from Future's End), his sister Michelle (Goldstar), and Rip Hunter, have been imprisoned in Castle Deimos on the planet Telos.

  • The Captors: The group has been held captive by the sorcerer Deimos, but they manage to escape when Rip Hunter and the New 52 Booster free the others.
  • A Chronal Ailment: The older Booster Gold is suffering from an overload of chronal energy, which is causing him to randomly "time-hop" through the various cities captured by Brainiac on Telos, causing him to age rapidly and become unstuck in time and space.
  • Escaping to the Surface: The group, including Michelle and their friend Skeets, manage to reach the surface of Telos. Skeets explains that the captured cities have chronal signatures, and the older Booster's condition is worsening because of them.
  • The Legion of Super-Heroes: They break into the dome of a city from the 31st Century and immediately get into a fight with the Legion of Super-Heroes, who have just regained their powers.
  • The Cliffhanger: The older Booster is pulled away by his condition, bouncing into a different domed city where he recognizes the voice of his long-dead best friend, Ted Kord (Blue Beetle), alive and well.

Key Themes

The miniseries acts as a continuation and an epilogue for Booster Gold's long-running story arc involving time travel and the various realities of the DC multiverse. It emphasizes the complex, generational ties of the "Time Masters" (Rip is Booster's son in some timelines, but not necessarily this one) and the unique struggle of characters whose entire existence is tied to a linear timeline that is being destroyed.
