Convergence: Justice League International #1 (2015), written by Ron Marz with art by Mike Manley, features the classic pre-Zero Hour team struggling to maintain order in a domed Metropolis before being forced into a multiversal clash with the heroes of Kingdom Come.
Plot Synopsis
The story opens after a year of life under the dome, which has neutralized the team's superpowers.
- The Metallo Siege: A powered-down team—including Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), Martian Manhunter, Fire, Ice, and Captain Atom—battles Metallo and his "metallic men". Despite having no powers, the team uses Blue Beetle’s gadgets to defeat the villain, though Beetle sustains a broken arm and his ship, The Bug, is heavily damaged.
- Life Under the Dome: The issue highlights the team's internal struggles. Ted Kord feels overwhelmed as the leader, dealing with dwindling resources and guilt over the destruction caused by their battles.
- The Tournament Begins: The entity Telos announces the end of the dome and commands the cities to fight for survival. As the dome falls, the team’s powers return. Ted Kord is initially reluctant to participate in the forced tournament, but the arrival of aggressive challengers leaves him no choice.
The Opponents
Just as the JLI regains their abilities, they are ambushed on the roof of the Daily Planet by a high-powered team from the Earth-22 (Kingdom Come) universe:
- Wonder Woman (leading the group)
- Shazam
- Blue Beetle (Earth-22 version)
- Jade, Obsidian, Nightstar, Huntress, and The Creeper
