Damage # 1 2018 titled "Out of Control," launched a new series as part of the "New Age of DC Heroes" initiative following the Dark Nights: Metal event. Published on January 17, 2018, the issue was written by Robert Venditti with art by Tony S. Daniel and Danny Miki. 

"Out of Control"

The story introduces Ethan "Elvis" Avery, a soldier who volunteered for a top-secret government experiment to serve his country. 

• The Transformation: Instead of becoming a standard super-soldier, Ethan was turned into a "living, breathing, ticking time bomb". He can transform into a monstrous, unstoppable brute known as Damage for exactly one hour per day.
• The Escape: The issue begins with Damage breaking free from military transport, crashing into downtown Atlanta, and unleashing massive destruction.
• The Pursuit: While Ethan struggles to retain his humanity and control the monster, he is hunted by Colonel Marie Jonas and a specialized military team. The issue ends with Amanda Waller planning to deploy the Suicide Squad to capture him. 

• Ethan Avery (Damage): The protagonist who seeks to be a hero but is trapped in a body he cannot control.
• Colonel Marie Jonas: Ethan's ruthless former handler who views him as a weapon of mass destruction.
• Major Liggett: A soldier in an armored suit who attempts to stop Damage in Atlanta.
• Task Force XL: A larger-scale version of the Suicide Squad, including members like Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Giganta, and Solomon Grundy, who appear in pursuit.
