Daredevil: Father # 1 is the first issue of a six-part miniseries published by Marvel Comics in June 2004, in celebration of Daredevil's 40th Anniversary. It is written and illustrated by then-Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, making it a notable issue for the creator's return to the drawing board.

  • Creative Team: The issue is written, penciled, and has a cardstock cover by Joe Quesada, with inks by Danny Miki and colors by Richard Isanove.
  • Main Plot: Set during a brutal heat wave in New York City, Matt Murdock reflects on his complicated relationship with his own father, "Battlin' Jack" Murdock, on Father's Day. Simultaneously, Daredevil investigates a serial killer operating outside of Hell's Kitchen, as Matt takes on a complex legal case for a woman named Maggie Farrell who believes pollution caused her cancer.
  • Significance: The miniseries is known for a dark and controversial twist ending in later issues, which canonically ties Matt's origin story to a horrific act committed by the man he saved, leading Maggie to become the serial killer in a misguided quest for revenge.
