Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Green Lantern #1 (2022) is a tie-in to the "Dark Crisis" event that traps John Stewart in a dream reality where he is the world's greatest hero and must protect Earth from a multiversal threat with the help of a blind Kyle Rayner and Red Hood.

Main Plot

After the apparent death of the Justice League, Pariah traps each member in their own personalized dream world, an "emotional prison dimension" tailored to their innermost desires, to siphon their hope and power.

The Green Lantern story, "The Architect," depicts a reality where John Stewart is celebrated as Earth's premier superhero, having retired as the Guardian of the Universe to live a peaceful life as an architect. He lives on a farm with his mother and sister Eleanor, having left an elite team of Lanterns, "the Watchtower," to protect the Earth.

This idyllic life is interrupted when the Watchtower, led by the blind prophet Kyle Rayner and ally Red Hood (Jason Todd, here a Lantern of determination), calls for help against the "Radiant Dead". John's "sister" Eleanor is revealed to be the sentient Central Power Battery in disguise. Embracing his true calling, John transforms into the "Emerald Knight of Justice" and flies into space, destroying the enemy's champion and saving his world.

Pariah is revealed to be the mastermind behind her "adventure" at the end of the story, laughing maniacally.

Context: The issue merges John Stewart's original architectural background with his marine corps background, celebrating his potential as both a "builder and defender".

Summary

The one-shot explores John Stewart's personal paradise engineered by Pariah, where he is the greatest hero, before he is drawn back into action to defend his reality. The story ultimately underlines the core Dark Crisis theme that the spirit of the Justice League, and hope itself, can never truly be extinguished.
