Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Wonder Woman #1 (2022) is a 40-page anthology tie-in comic published by DC Comics on September 13, 2022. Written by Tini Howard (Wonder Woman story) and Dan Watters (Martian Manhunter backup), this issue explores the custom-made dream-dimension pocket worlds created by the cosmic villain Pariah to imprison Earth's greatest heroes during the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event.
"The Well of Souls" (Wonder Woman Main Story)
Pariah traps Princess Diana’s life essence inside an artificial, idealized paradise tailored to her deepest desires for global harmony, but the utopia hides a sinister cost.
- The Golden Age: In this dream realm, Earth has finally achieved absolute peace. Diana's close friend Etta Candy has been elected President of the United States, and humanity has entered a historic alliance with the three unified Amazonian tribes called "The Triad."
- The Omelas-Style Twist: While exploring beneath Paradise Island, Diana discovers a hidden missile silo containing the "Well of Souls." Chained inside is her classic enemy, Doctor Psycho. She learns her perfect world is a dark compromise: Doctor Psycho is kept as a literal sacrificial scapegoat, painfully absorbing all of humanity's collective malice and sins so the rest of the world can remain pure.
- The Fracture: Refusing to accept a paradise built on torture, Diana rejects the fabrication. Her rebellion fractures Pariah's mental matrix, initiating her psychological escape back to reality.
"The King of Red Corridors" (Martian Manhunter Backup)
The second half of the issue spotlights J'onn J'onzz, who is trapped in his own psychological prison.
- The Noir Fantasy: J'onn operates as a hard-boiled human private investigator named John Jones in a classic noir setting.
- The Awakening: As he tracks down a bizarre case, he encounters psychic anomalies and echoes of his dead Martian heritage. He slowly pieces together that his gritty reality is a simulation, forcing him to confront his deep-seated grief to break free.
