DC Holiday Special 2017 # 1, published on December 5, 2017, is a 96-page anthology featuring 11 short stories centered on hope, redemption, and festive cheer within the DC Universe. The issue is notable for a framing story by Jeff Lemire and the return of legendary writer Denny O'Neil to Batman.

The anthology uses a framing device set in Bibbo Bibbowski's Ace o' Clubs bar.

  • The Framing Story ("The Reminder"): On Christmas Eve, a cynical John Constantine is ejected from Bibbo's bar for his negativity. Bibbo then shares several stories with a despondent Clark Kent to restore his faith in humanity.
  • Batman ("'Twas the Night Before Christmas"): Written by Denny O'Neil, this story follows Batman as he rescues a family from a kidnapper who is being manipulated by the vengeful spirit of his late grandmother.
  • Sgt. Rock ("Going Down Easy!"): A Jewish American soldier and his Nazi prisoner are stranded in the snow for eight days and nights. The soldier's faith sustains him until Sgt. Rock arrives to relieve him.
  • The Flash ("Hope for the Holidays"): Barry Allen defeats Rainbow Raider at an airport and then uses his speed to personally deliver stranded travelers to their holiday destinations.
  • Green Arrow & Black Canary ("You Better Think Twice"): Oliver and Dinah dress as Santa and Mrs. Claus to deliver gifts to an orphanage, rediscovering the holiday's symbolic meaning after stopping toy thieves.
  • Wonder Woman & Batman ("Solstice"): A parallel narrative by Greg Rucka that juxtaposes Batman's dark urban vigilante work with Wonder Woman's humanitarian relief efforts, concluding with a light-sharing solstice ceremony.
  • Teen Titans ("Holiday Spirit"): Starfire, unaffected by a "Ghost of Christmas Past" spirit because she is an alien, saves her team from reliving their worst holiday memories.
  • Deathstroke ("A Wilson Family Christmas"): A flashback to a dysfunctional Christmas with Slade Wilson's original family before his sons became Ravager and Jericho.
