DC House of Horror # 1 2017 NM

DC House of Horror # 1, released on October 25, 2017, is an 80-page prestige format anthology that reimagines iconic DC characters through a grim, horror-focused lens. Masterminded and plotted by Keith Giffen, the special features eight "Elseworlds"-style tales written by notable contemporary horror novelists paired with veteran DC artists. 

The anthology focuses on dark, often gruesome twists on familiar origins and hero dynamics: 

• Superman ("Bump in the Night"): Instead of a hopeful savior, baby Kal-El is a predatory creature that brutally murders Jonathan and Martha Kent upon landing in Smallville.
• Wonder Woman ("Man's World"): A young woman is possessed by a murderous Amazon spirit after a Ouija board experiment goes wrong, leading to a savage killing spree.
• Justice League ("Blackest Day"): A zombie-infected Barry Allen brings a virus to the Justice League satellite, leading to a desperate, gore-heavy battle between a zombified Flash and Hal Jordan.
• Batman ("Last Laugh"): Bruce Wayne struggles with a psyche so fractured that he realizes his identity as Batman may be a fabrication to hide his own psychopathic serial killer nature.
• Shazam ("The Possession of Billy Batson"): A "badass" version of Billy Batson is plagued by an insidious inner voice urging him to say a word that will unleash unimaginable carnage.
• Other Tales: Includes a Harley Quinn ghost haunting a man into murder, a serial-killing Green Arrow caging Black Canary, and a version of Two-Face who was a skin-cutting killer before his transformation. 

The project utilized a "Marvel Method" approach where Keith Giffen provided the plots for all stories, which were then scripted by horror authors.
