DC Universe Holiday Bash III, published in January 1999 (on-sale November 1998), is a 56-page anthology featuring seven holiday-themed short stories starring various DC heroes and villains. The issue is framed by a cover depicting the villain Shrapnel with the faces of the featured heroes reflected in his metallic skin. 

Featured Stories 

  • Superman and Batman ("World's Finest Christmas"): Written by Karl Kesel with art by Dave Taylor. The duo teams up to stop Toyman, who has created a giant action figure to attack a rival toymaker, Sam Lattem.
  • Impulse ("No, Bart, There Is No Santa Claus"): Written by Mark Waid and Devin Grayson. Max Mercury tries to convince Bart Allen that Santa is a myth by taking him to the North Pole. Bart concludes Santa has been kidnapped and zips around the world delivering presents to everyone he meets, even a dog.
  • The Joker ("The Joker's Twelve Days of Christmas"): A two-page riff on the classic Christmas carol by Chuck Dixon and Bill Sienkiewicz, detailing the Joker's twisted holiday wish list of mayhem.
  • Robin ("Alone for the Holidays"): Written by Chuck Dixon with art by Gordon Purcell. A lonely Tim Drake patrols Gotham on Christmas Eve only to be surprised by a party thrown by Oracle, Alfred, and Nightwing.
  • Wonder Woman ("Heathen Ways"): Written by Eric Luke. Diana tries to celebrate the holiday with her friends but is challenged by Artemis, who views it as a betrayal of their Amazon heritage. Diana eventually teaches her about the shared spirit of friendship.
  • The Slab ("Home for the Holidays"): Written by Scott Beatty. The villain Shrapnel escapes the high-tech "Slab" prison just to see his twin daughters on Christmas Eve. After watching them sleep, he peacefully surrenders to return to jail.
  • Bat Lash ("An Eye for Detail"): Written by Chuck Dixon. The cowboy adventurer rescues a man and his daughter from gunmen demanding their land after noticing a piece of mistletoe
