DCeased: Unkillables # 1 Cover A First Printing 2020 NM-

DCeased: Unkillables #1 (published in February 2020) is the premier issue of a three-part horror miniseries set within DC Comics' popular, apocalyptic alternative universe. Written by Tom Taylor with grittily detailed artwork by Karl Mostert, the series answers a fascinating question: What did the villains and antiheroes do when the world ended and the heroes failed?

The Plot

• The Outbreak: The issue takes place concurrently with the main 2019 DCeased event, where a corrupted techno-organic Anti-Life Equation spreads through digital screens, turning most of humanity and the Justice League into violent, zombie-like "Blighed" monsters.
• The Villains' Alliance: While the A-list superheroes are overwhelmed, legendary mercenary Deathstroke (Slade Wilson) survives an attack thanks to his accelerated healing factor. He crosses paths with Vandal Savage, a ruthless immortal who has lived for thousands of years and refuses to let the planet die. Savage begins systematically gathering a survival crew of the planet's deadliest mercenaries, thieves, and antiheroes.
• The Street-Level Struggle: At the same time, Red Hood (Jason Todd) discovers a Bat-family vehicle and sets off across the ruined remains of Gotham City, executing infected monsters and picking up fellow survivors.

Core Themes

• Survival Over Morality: Unlike traditional Justice League stories built on saving ideals, this series centers entirely on practical, brutal survival. Villains are uniquely suited for an apocalypse because they lack the moral hesitation that got many heroes killed.
• Unlikely Found Family: The issue establishes a fascinating dynamic as cold-blooded killers find themselves protecting civilian children and collaborating with ideological enemies just to stay alive.
