Deathstroke: The Hunted # 0 published in October 1994, served as a "Zero Month" tie-in for the Zero Hour event and marked a major rebranding of the series, which was previously titled Deathstroke the Terminator.

The issue kicks off a new status quo where Slade Wilson becomes a fugitive from the law.

  • The Frame-Up: Deathstroke is falsely accused of assassinating Senator Williams and attempting to assassinate President Bill Clinton.
  • The Investigation: Slade learns from an eye-witness at the home of his ex-lover, Sweet Lili, that the real Senator was murdered by a costumed impostor who then planned to use a suicide bomb to kill the President.
  • The Arrest and Escape: Despite knowing the truth, Slade is captured by federal agents led by Sarge Steel. He is eventually broken out of custody by his allies, Wintergreen and Vigilante, and forced to go on the run.
  • The Shadowy Foe: While Slade is being hunted by the U.S. Army, Checkmate, and even his ex-wife Adeline Kane, the Crimelord of Zandia is revealed to be working from the shadows, targeting Slade's remaining contacts and allies.
  • Creative Team: Written by Marv Wolfman, with pencils by Sergio Cariello and a cover by Scott McDaniel.
  • Historical Context: This issue was part of the DC-wide "Zero Month" initiative, where every series released a #0 issue to reveal previously unknown origin details or reset the character's direction.
  • Series Change: This issue transitioned the title's focus from a mercenary-for-hire story to a fugitive thriller, which continued into issue #41.
