Doctor Fate # 1 2015 NM-

Doctor Fate # 1, released on June 17, 2015, launched a new ongoing series that introduced Khalid Nassour as the modern incarnation of the titular hero. Part of the "DC You" initiative, the book reimagined the mantle's legacy through a contemporary, diverse lens. 

The debut issue introduces Khalid Nassour, an Egyptian-American first-year medical student living in Brooklyn. His life is upended when Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead, decides to "cleanse" the world by unleashing a catastrophic global flood. 

To stop the rising tide and save humanity, the mystical Helmet of Fate (Nabu) must find a new champion. Instead of choosing a seasoned hero, Nabu settles on the inexperienced and overwhelmed Khalid. By the end of the issue, Khalid is handed the helmet without any instructions, forcing him to struggle with mastered ancient powers while being tested by an ancient evil.
