Doctor Mid-Nite Book One 1999 Miniseries

The story follows Dr. Pieter Cross, a brilliant and compassionate young physician living in the European city of Prague. 

  • A Tragic Night: After accidentally hitting a woman with his car one night, Cross is drugged and passes out.
  • The Awakening: He awakens in a morgue several hours later to discover he is suffering from "nyctalopia"—legal blindness in normal daylight, but perfect vision in complete darkness.
  • A New Calling: Guided by a vision of the original Doctor Mid-Nite, Charles McNider, Cross is given special "infra-goggles" to correct his daylight blindness and adopts the identity of the new Doctor Mid-Nite.
  • The Villain: He sets up a free clinic in the impoverished "Slum" district and becomes a superhero dedicated to justice. He soon runs afoul of the "Ice Man", a dangerous criminal and his primary antagonist for the miniseries.
