Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures #1 2023 NM

Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures #1 (IDW Publishing, 2023 series) picks up where the classic 1980s cartoon left off, exploring the adventurers' ongoing quest to return home to Earth while raising the question of whether some of them even want to go back. 

The issue reintroduces the six main characters—Hank the Ranger, Diana the Acrobat, Sheila the Thief, Bobby the Barbarian, Eric the Cavalier, and Presto the Magician—who were magically transported to the Forgotten Realms via an amusement park roller coaster. They have been in the realm for some time, constantly battling the evil Venger and relying on the enigmatic Dungeon Master for cryptic guidance in finding a way home. 

The main conflict in this issue is a philosophical one: while Hank is determined to find a way back to their world, some of the other kids have grown accustomed to their new life and its challenges, even meeting friends and loved ones in the process. This internal conflict comes to a head when they are attacked by a group of Driders and other creatures. The chaos of the attack leads them through a portal that transports them to the well-known D&D location of Waterdeep, setting the stage for a new adventure and potentially new alliances. The comic functions as a "lost episode" that charts new territory for the characters, capturing the nostalgic feel of the original show.
