Flash Forward #1 (2019) is a redemption story for Wally West, picking up after the events of Heroes in Crisis, where he is in prison, full of guilt for accidentally killing several heroes at Sanctuary.

Main Plot

The story begins with Wally West in Blackgate Prison, powerless and haunted by nightmares of his actions at the superhero mental health facility, Sanctuary. He is visited by a universe-monitoring entity called Tempus Fuginaut, who explains that the Dark Multiverse is infecting and consuming the mainstream realities. Tempus reveals that Wally, as the fastest being in the Multiverse, is the only one who can stop this impending doom.

Wally initially refuses, consumed by self-condemnation and believing he is unworthy of being a hero. He is attacked by other inmates, including Girder and Tar Pit, but when his power-dampening collar is broken, he instinctively uses his speed to incapacitate them. Impressed by this flicker of heroism, Tempus Fuginaut forcibly sends Wally across the Multiverse to the first "incursion point".

The issue ends on a cliffhanger as Wally arrives on Earth-23 and encounters that universe's Superman, who also happens to be the President of the United States, injured and fighting off the dark energy creatures.
