Foolkiller # 1 2017 (Volume 3) is a dark, self-aware relaunch written by Max Bemis and illustrated by Dalibor Talajic. The story follows Greg Salinger, a former vigilante and mercenary who once killed those he deemed "foolish". 

The "Psycho Therapy" Era

The issue introduces a reformed Salinger who has attempted to leave his violent past behind to become a professional psychiatrist. 

• The S.H.I.E.L.D. Mandate: Salinger is recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. for a unique rehabilitation program. His task is to provide therapy to supervillains and low-level criminals.
• The Deadly Catch: The program has a grim condition: if a patient fails to show sufficient progress or remains "foolish," Salinger is authorized—and expected—to execute them.
• Internal Struggle: Much of the issue focuses on Salinger's internal monologue and his struggle to maintain his new professional identity while his old violent instincts as the Foolkiller simmer beneath the surface. 
• Protagonist Background: This version of Greg Salinger picks up after his time in Deadpool's "Mercs for Money," during which he actually earned his psychiatry degree.
