Foolkiller #8 (titled "42 Days!") published in June 1991, is the eighth installment of a 10-part limited series written by character creator Steve Gerber. It is notable for its heavy political themes and a guest appearance by Spider-Man.

Core Storyline: "42 Days!"

Set against the backdrop of the start of Operation: Desert Storm, the issue explores the sociopolitical tension of the era through the lens of Kurt Gerhardt (the third Foolkiller).

  • The Conflict: As the Gulf War begins, protesters and counter-protesters clash in the streets. Kurt, who views "fools" on both sides of the debate as the problem, intervenes in a peace rally that turns violent.
  • The Targets: Expanding his definition of "fools," Kurt targets both pro-war and anti-war leaders. He also goes after unconventional targets, such as anti-toy activists who encourage parents to burn violent toys, viewing their actions as pointless.
  • Spider-Man's Role: Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man appears to intervene in the chaos, though Kurt's primary struggle remains his descent into homicidal despair and his broadening list of victims.
