Force Works # 12 published in June 1995, is a significant flip-book issue featuring two parallel storylines involving the members of Force Works and their ally, War Machine.
Story 1: "Green Fire!"
The main story concludes a two-part arc set in the Eastern European nation of Slorenia, which is embroiled in a brutal ethnic conflict.
- The Conflict: Force Works is caught between the Slorenians and the Dudaks. The team initially aids the immortal Dudak champion Ember, only to realize he is as ruthless and dangerous as the Slorenian champion Volkvhy.
- Key Battles: Iron Man engages in a fierce battle with the Black Brigade, ultimately defeating him by tearing open his armor. Meanwhile, Volkvhy attempts to drain the life energy of Spider-Woman (Julia Carpenter).
- The Resolution: The team’s Rigellian Recorder is revealed to have sabotaged Century, knocking him unconscious to "watch" the heroes suffer. Century recovers, decapitates the rogue Recorder, and arrives just in time to save his teammates from an enraged Ember.
Story 2: "Vicious Circle: Into the Shadows!"
The flip-side story begins a three-part solo adventure for War Machine (Jim Rhodes) titled "Brothers in Arms".
- The Mission: Rhodey travels to the Central American nation of San Revilla to locate a friend's missing brother.
- The Combatants: War Machine faces off against government troops and two super-powered rebels, Striker and Sundance. He deduces that Sundance uses a light-generating apparatus to grant the rebels partial invisibility.
- The Twist: Rhodey discovers that the San Revilla government has hired its own super-powered mercenaries, including U.S. Agent (who has seemingly split from the main Force Works team for this mission), Hazzerd, and Troubleshooter. The issue ends with War Machine coming face-to-face with Hawkeye.
- Writers: Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.
- Artists: Jim Calafiore and Rey Garcia.
- Featured Heroes: Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Woman, U.S. Agent, Century, and War Machine.
