G.I. Combat # 1 2012 NM-

G.I. Combat # 1, released by DC Comics on May 2, 2012, is the debut of an anthology series launched as part of The New 52's "Second Wave". It replaces the canceled Men of War and features two primary stories that blend traditional military action with science fiction and espionage. 

The 32-page issue is split into two distinct segments of roughly equal length: 

• "The War That Time Forgot"
• Synopsis: A group of contemporary soldiers on a mission in the Sea of Japan have their helicopter downed by a flock of pterodactyls. They are forced to crash-land on an uncharted island where prehistoric animals, vintage tanks, and modern military hardware coexist in an endless war of attrition.
• Creative Team: Written by J.T. Krul with digital-heavy, hyper-realistic art by Ariel Olivetti.
• "The Unknown Soldier"
• Synopsis: After losing his wife and children to terrorists in the 2005 London bombings, a broken man becomes a human guinea pig for military experiments. Now an enigmatic field operative, he is deployed to Afghanistan to engage in all-out war.
• Creative Team: Written by the Jonah Hex team of Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, with art by Dan Panosian.
