Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance # 1 published in August 1992, is the first issue of an ongoing series that teamed up the current Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch) with his predecessor, Johnny Blaze. Written by Howard Mackie and illustrated by Adam Kubert, this issue is officially Part 2 of 6 in the "Rise of the Midnight Sons" crossover event.
"Escape from New York into Visions of Hell"
The story picks up with Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch fleeing Brooklyn while pursued by the police.
- The Conflict: Despite his reluctance to work with the supernatural Ghost Rider again, Johnny is driven by a shared vision of a global threat.
- The Rebirth of Lilith: In Greenland, the demon-mother Lilith breaks free from her ancient prison—the remains of the Leviathan. She begins regrouping her "Lilin" brood, including the teleporter Pilgrim.
- Attack on the Carnival: To draw out Blaze, Lilith's minions (Blackout and Creed) attack the Quentin Carnival and kidnap Johnny’s son, Craig Blaze.
- The Battle: Johnny and Ghost Rider track the Lilin and engage in a brutal fight. Johnny uses his Hellfire gun to destroy Creed's physical form, while Ghost Rider drives Blackout through a portal.
- The Aftermath: Realizing his family is a target as long as he remains with them, Johnny decides to leave them behind to hunt down Lilith.
- Notable Appearances: The issue features the first appearance of Wolf, a member of the Quentin Carnival, and other carnival regulars like Clara Menninger.
- Dr. Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme appears in a cameo, secretly observing the events as he prepares to assemble the "Midnight Sons".
- Format: The original release was often polybagged and included a bonus "Midnight Sons" collector's poster illustrated by Adam Kubert.
- Continuity: This story continues directly from Ghost Rider #28 and is followed by Morbius: The Living Vampire #1.
