Featured Stories and Plot Summaries

Each segment focuses on a different hero and explores a unique aspect of their history:

  • Alan Scott ("Untitled/1940s Tale"): Set in 1949, Alan Scott (Sentinel) tracks communist spies in Gotham. When they get the upper hand and knock him unconscious, he is rescued by the Harlequin (Molly Mayne), who helps him recover his ring and dismantle the ring.
  • John Stewart ("Before I'd Be a Slave"): After hearing a racist speech by a politician on Earth, John flies into space to clear his mind. He encounters a stranded spaceship on a planet where slaveholders abuse their crew; John frees the slaves and stays to teach them self-sufficiency.
  • Guy Gardner ("Law of the Jungle"): On the primitive planet Hogarth, Guy finds himself with a powerless ring. He decides to fight a group of local barbarians using only his physical strength and wits to prove he doesn't need the ring to be a hero.
  • Hal Jordan ("Lessons"): A flashback shows Hal Jordan as a test pilot. An alien destroys the jet he is testing to kidnap him, believing he is the "best pilot in the world" and needed for a war. Hal manages to outmaneuver the aliens without his ring, ultimately helping them speed up their own neural paths for better combat.
  • Kyle Rayner ("Shepherd"): Alan Scott tells a story from Kyle's high school days where Kyle initially falls in with a group of bullies. After a football player challenges him, Kyle learns to make his own choices, eventually standing up to the bullies to protect another student.
  • G'nort ("Whatever Happened to G'nort?"): A humorous tale where G'nort, struggling with his canine impulses while his ring is powerless, accidentally apprehends the villain Catman while chasing him like a stray car.
