Green Lantern Corps # 1 2006 VF

Green Lantern Corps # 1 (Volume 2, published in 2006) initiates the "To Be a Lantern" storyline, focusing on the rebuilding of the Corps after a year of absence and the challenges new recruits face while veteran Lanterns like Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner are forced into training roles. 

Main Plot

The Guardians of the Universe are in the process of rebuilding the Green Lantern Corps and have started a massive recruitment drive following their victory over the Spider Guild a year prior. The issue follows two main narrative threads: 

• Guy Gardner's New Role: Veteran Green Lantern Guy Gardner, against his will, is assigned to train the new recruits. He is sent on a mission to a dangerous, feudal world to investigate a Lantern disappearance, an assignment he views as "babysitting".
• New Recruits' Trials: Across the galaxy, various new recruits are introduced as they receive their rings and face immediate challenges that test their courage and worthiness. This includes the introduction of the Korugarian neurosurgeon Soranik Natu, who is reluctant to accept the ring due to her planet's history with the villain Sinestro but ultimately does so to save a life, and the Rannian soldier Vath Sarn and Thanagarian warrior Isamot Kol, who are recruited from opposite sides of the ongoing Rann/Thanagar War. 

The issue sets a tone of high tension as the universe is still unstable, the Rann/Thanagar War is spreading, and a mysterious threat is killing new Green Lantern recruits by creating black holes. The plot points in this issue set the stage for the wider, more expansive cosmic stories that would define the era.
