Green Lantern: New Guardians #1 (2011) marks the beginning of the "Ring Bearer" storyline, where Kyle Rayner is suddenly chosen by power rings from all seven colors of the emotional spectrum, making him a target for every other Lantern Corps.
Main Plot: "New Guardians, Part One"
The issue begins with a flashback to Kyle Rayner's origin, where the Guardian Ganthet bestows the final Green Lantern ring upon him in an alleyway. In the present day, after Kyle saves a crane operator in New York City, he is unexpectedly approached by Blue, Red, Indigo, Violet, Yellow, and Orange Lantern rings, all claiming him as their new bearer.
This unprecedented event occurs because members of these other Corps are being mysteriously "decommissioned," with their rings flying across the universe specifically to find Kyle. Almost immediately, a representative from each Corps—including Arkillo (Yellow), Bleez (Red), and Fatality (Violet)—confronts Kyle in Times Square, accusing him of stealing their technology. The issue ends as these powerful warriors combine their forces to attack him.
Key Characters and Team
While the "New Guardians" team eventually forms to investigate why the rings chose Kyle, this first issue focuses on their initial hostile encounter.
