Green Lantern: Season Two #1 (2020) launched a new direction for the ongoing series, focusing on Hal Jordan as he navigates a complex political landscape where the Green Lantern Corps is struggling with its authority and a new universal order is taking hold.

Main Plot

The issue picks up after the events of the previous volume, which saw the Guardians of the Universe and the Corps facing significant challenges to their authority. With a fragile new peace established across the galaxy, the United Planets are starting to assert more control, and the Green Lantern Corps finds itself in an awkward position, attempting to adapt to this new, more bureaucratic universal law.

Hal Jordan is back on Oa, feeling restless and disillusioned with the Corps' new status quo. He is approached by a mysterious character known as the "Young Guardians," who offer him a unique mission to venture into uncharted space and act as a pioneer for the United Planets' expansion.

Meanwhile, the issue re-introduces the classic Green Lantern villain Black Hand (William Hand), who has seemingly been resurrected and is beginning to manipulate events from the shadows. The story sets up a conflict where Hal must deal with the political machinations of the universe while an old, existential threat resurfaces, promising a return to more classic Green Lantern horror elements.
