Green Lantern: The New Corps #1 (1999) is the first of a two-part prestige format miniseries written by Chuck Dixon. It follows Kyle Rayner, then the only Green Lantern in the universe, as he attempts to rebuild the Corps by hand-picking a new generation of intergalactic peacekeepers.
Plot and Storyline
The story, titled "The New Corps Part One," explores Kyle Rayner’s struggle with the loneliness and massive responsibility of being the sole Green Lantern after the original Corps' destruction.
- The Mission: Kyle travels to the far reaches of space to find candidates worthy of wielding power rings. He selects five diverse individuals from across the galaxy.
- New Recruits: The issue introduces a brand-new "New Corps" consisting of:
- Magaan Van’n Intraktus: A survivor from the planet Van'n.
- Anya Savenlovich: A lieutenant colonel from the Soviet Air Forces who was found in suspended animation after a 1964 space mission.
- Hammeroon: A high-tech bounty hunter from the Ilskado System.
- Garl Rathbone: A miner working in the debris belt above the planet Daffith.
- Sool: A judge from the planet Daffith.
- The Conflict: As Kyle begins training this unlikely assortment of heroes, they face an unexpected new villain whose power rivals their own. The narrative examines whether Kyle’s definition of justice and heroism can truly be applied to such a varied group in deep space.
