Green Lantern: War Journal #1 (2023) focuses on John Stewart attempting to live a normal, post-superhero life on Earth, only to be drawn back into action by a multiversal threat connected to Oa. 

Main Plot

Following his time as an "ascended being" and the United Planets taking control of the Green Lantern Corps, John Stewart returns to Earth to care for his mother, who is suffering from dementia. He has left his power ring and superhero life behind, seeking peace and normalcy. 

This new life is interrupted by two key events:

1. A terrifying and contagious force, later revealed to be the "Revenant Queen" and her "Radiant Dead," appears on Earth with a mysterious connection to Oa.
2. A young, brash Green Lantern named Lantern Shepherd (also known as Caolán Shepherd) arrives from another universe that has been destroyed by this same threat. Shepherd seeks out John Stewart, identifying him as the "immortal Guardian and Builder" who can defeat this force. 

The issue contrasts John's quiet, domestic life with the looming cosmic horror and features a brief confrontation with an officious, arrogant United Planets Lantern who attempts to confiscate John's non-existent ring. Ultimately, John must embrace his potential to become the greatest Green Lantern in the Multiverse to face this new, powerful villain.
