Guardians of the Galaxy # 1 January 22, 2020 (Volume 6) marks the beginning of writer Al Ewing’s acclaimed run. It launches a new era for the team, shifting from a ragtag family of misfits to a more organized cosmic peacekeeping force facing divine threats. 

"Rogue Gods in Outer Space"

The story finds the original Guardians attempting to enjoy a peaceful retirement on Halfworld. However, this peace is interrupted by the return of a major threat: 

• The Return of the Olympians: The Greek gods, led by a reborn and more powerful Zeus, have returned from an alternate dimension. They are now "reborn to burn their mark on the stars" as harbingers of war.
• The Mission: Nova (Richard Rider) arrives with news of the Olympians' return, having already attacked the Kree Empire. While most of the team is hesitant to return to war, Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon feel compelled to join Nova's emergency strike team.
• The Conflict: The Guardians infiltrate the Olympians' floating "city-world," which can phase in and out of reality. Their plan to destroy it with a singularity bomb goes wrong when the supercharged gods discover and seize the weapon.
• Final Reveal: The issue ends with the discovery of Hercules in shackles within the city, hinting at him becoming the newest member of the team. 

• Creative Team: Written by Al Ewing with art by Juann Cabal and colors by Federico Blee.
• Team Lineup: This iteration features a mix of classics and newcomers, including Star-Lord, Rocket, Nova, Phyla-Vell, Moondragon, and Marvel Boy (Noh-Varr).
