Harley Quinn and Power Girl # 1 2015 kicks off a cosmic adventure where the titular duo finds themselves stranded in an alien dimension on the homeworld of the amorous warlord Vartox. The miniseries spins out of a single panel from the main Harley Quinn series, expanding on the unseen misadventures of the amnesiac Power Girl and her self-appointed sidekick, Harley.

Harley Quinn and Power Girl #1 picks up after the pair are tossed through a teleportation ring. The main events of the issue include:

  • Crash Landing: The issue opens with the pair drifting through space before crash-landing on an unknown planet. Harley, suffering from an upset stomach, vomits on the local wildlife upon arrival.
  • Encountering Sleezox: While searching for a way home, they meet Sleezox, an exiled, "free love" promoting alien who resembles a Yoda-like figure. When they reject his advances, he unleashes his pet, a giant alien hydra.
  • Battling the Hydra: Power Girl is swallowed whole by one of the hydra's heads but quickly cuts her way out, decapitating it. Harley finds an impressive arsenal of large weapons at Sleezox's bunker and uses them to destroy the hydra.
  • Meeting Vartox's Ship: After the battle, they board a giant, fully-furnished robot head that served as Vartox's ship, designed with a 1970s aesthetic featuring beanbag chairs and lava lamps. The ship, sensing Power Girl's presence, reveals it is taking them to its owner, Lord Vartox, a former suitor of Power Girl's.
  • A New Conflict: The ship is shot down as they approach the planet Lustox, where Vartox is being held captive by the villain Oreth Odeox, who seeks to eradicate all hedonism in the galaxy.
  • Accidental Revolution: After crash-landing again, Harley shoots a judgmental local magistrate who accuses Power Girl of prostitution due to her revealing costume. This act is misinterpreted by the locals, who recognize Power Girl as a savior who previously saved them from a "contraceptive bomb," and the duo suddenly finds themselves leading a revolution against systemic oppression.

The issue ends on a cliffhanger as Harley and Power Girl are swarmed by an armed alien armada, setting up the rest of the six-issue miniseries.
