Hawkgirl # 1 2023 NM-

Hawkgirl # 1, released on July 18, 2023, is the first issue of a six-part miniseries that serves as a fresh start for Kendra Saunders within the "Dawn of DC" initiative. 

Following the disbanding of the Justice League, Kendra Saunders moves to Metropolis seeking a life independent of her complicated history and endless cycle of reincarnations. 

• The Conflict: Her attempt at a normal life is interrupted when an alien force known as the Helioans (beings made of fire) invades the city. Hawkgirl battles the horde alongside heroes like Superman, Black Canary, and Power Girl.
• A New Ally: During the fight, a new hero named Galaxy (introduced in the graphic novel Galaxy: The Prettiest Star) and her talking Corgi, Argus, intervene to help Hawkgirl.
• The Main Villain: The issue introduces Vulpecula, a sinister, fairytale-like fox demon trapped on Earth for decades. Vulpecula has a mysterious connection to the Nth metal in Hawkgirl’s wings and weapons and is using it in experiments to open a portal to the "Nth World" (the Dark Multiverse).
• The Cliffhanger: The story ends with Hawkgirl being accidentally teleported into Galaxy’s apartment during one of Vulpecula's experiments. 
• Identity and Independence: The series emphasizes Kendra's desire to distance herself from Hawkman and be seen as an individual rather than a "sidekick" or part of a destined pair.
• Psychological Struggle: Kendra is portrayed as world-weary and struggling with "crippling loneliness" and the overwhelming flood of memories from hundreds of previous lives.
• LGBTQ+ Representation: The series features strong queer themes, specifically focusing on Galaxy's identity as a trans alien princess and her relationship with her partner.
