Hawkman Special # 1 1986 VF/NM

Hawkman Special # 1 released on March 5, 1986, is a one-shot comic titled "Last Rights". Written by Tony Isabella with art by Richard Howell, it serves as a direct sequel to the 1985 miniseries The Shadow War of Hawkman. 

The story centers on Katar Hol (Hawkman) struggling with the emotional aftermath of the war between Earth and Thanagar. 

• The Ritual: Unable to sleep after the deaths of fellow Thanagarians during the Shadow War, Katar is convinced by Shayera Thal (Hawkwoman) to perform an ancient ritual called "vol" to come to grips with the death of others.
• Journey to the Netherworld: Katar enters a spirit realm or netherworld to "walk with the dead" and bring peace to lingering souls. He is greeted by Sirrah Jak, who aids him in relieving the souls of his people.
• Revelations: During this journey, Katar learns dark truths about Thanagar's recent history, including how a plague left many sterile and that these individuals were pressed into service as "disposable" invasion forces.
• Conflict and Resolution: As the souls depart, Katar’s own mind creates stone creatures that attack him. Hawkwoman and the Gentleman Ghost arrive to assist him, with the Ghost even stealing ancient weapons from a London museum to defeat the creatures. 
• Hawkman (Katar Hol): The protagonist seeking spiritual resolution for his fallen countrymen.
• Hawkwoman (Shayera Thal): Katar's partner who guides him through the ritual.
• The Gentleman Ghost: An unlikely guest ally who assists in the netherworld battle.
• Mavis Trent: A long-time supporting character who appears as a spirit.
