Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1953—The Witch Tree & Rawhead and Bloody Bones # 1  released on November 25, 2015, is a one-shot comic that collects two separate stories as part of the larger 1953 series detailing Hellboy's early missions. 

The issue follows Hellboy's journey across England with his mentor, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, as they confront figures from British folklore. 

• "The Witch Tree": In this story, Hellboy and Bruttenholm go to the aid of a friend of theirs. They investigate the burial site of Boudicca's Hag, an ancient witch fabled to have assisted in the death of hundreds of Roman soldiers. They find themselves working together to combat the undead witch and her reanimated Roman centurions.
• "Rawhead and Bloody Bones": This shorter tale is based on an old English bogeyman nursery rhyme. Hellboy and Bruttenholm investigate a haunting at a pub, which began after the establishment changed its name from "The Whistling Pig" to "Rawhead and Bloody Bones," provoking the local spirits (revealed to be the ghosts of grave robbers).
