Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1955 Occult Intelligence # 1 released on September 13, 2017, is the first issue of a three-part miniseries that deepens the ongoing "occult Cold War" storyline in the Mignolaverse.

The issue features two parallel plots that highlight a global supernatural conflict: 

• Hellboy's Mission: During a layover on a remote island in the South Pacific, Hellboy is drawn into a web of intrigue involving government secrets and foreign agents. Both US and Soviet agents are vying for control over a new type of experimental weapon (an "e-bomb") and the strange, possibly supernatural creatures it is creating. This eventually leads to Hellboy having to fight large, kaiju-like monsters.
• Bruttenholm's Investigation: Back in England, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm uncovers more secrets about a wider, worldwide mystical conflict that is about to boil over, indicating that the events in the Pacific are part of a much larger, coordinated threat.
